• The All H Strategy

All the parts of the salmon's complex lifecycle have been threatened by human development. The Columbia Basin Federal Caucus agencies implement a comprehensive strategy to help the fish at all stages of their lifecycle. Sometimes referred to as the "all H" strategy, this approach includes:

q Habitat restoration (points 1, 3, 4, 6 and 11 on the salmon lifecycle picture to the left) to help restore the streams and floodplains where salmon spawn and rear,

q Hydropower dams (points 5 and 9 on the salmon lifecycle picture) use "smart spill" and surface passage to help their safe journey to and from the ocean,

q Hatcheries (point 2 on the salmon lifecycle picture) to help jump start nature,

q Harvest management (at points 7, 8 and 10 on the salmon lifecycle picture), and

q Predator management (at points 4, 6 and 9 on the salmon lifecycle picture)
