December 21, 2005: The U.S. Department of Justice today filed a notice of appeal of the U.S. District Court decision that remanded the 2004 NOAA Biological Opinion in October. November 30, 2005: The federal agencies responsible for operating the Columbia and Snake River dams and NOAA Fisheries have posted their brief and supporting declarations for the NWF v. NOAA Fisheries lawsuit on the Salmon Recovery website. These documents were written in response to the plaintiffs' motion for further injunctive relief, and their proposal for 2006 FCRPS operations.
November 23, 2005: Federal agencies responsible for operating Columbia River dams today submitted to the U.S. District Court in Portland an improved plan for increasing adult salmon returns.
November 1, 2005: Today the Bureau of Reclamation, Corps of Engineers, Bonneville Power Administration, and NMFS released a report “Federal Columbia River Power System, Summer Spill 2005 After-Action Report." October 17, 2005: The Bureau of Reclamation, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Bonneville Power Administration today delivered the “Protecting Salmon: Highlights” report covering actions to protect and restore Columbia River Basin salmon and steelhead listed under the Endangered Species Act in 2004. September 27, 2005: Materials are available for the meeting September 29, 2005, in connection with the ongoing litigation in National Wildlife Federation v. September 20, 2005: The US Department of Justice, NOAA Fisheries, the Bureau of Reclamation, and the US Army Corps of Engineers today made a filing with the US District Court of Oregon in the case of NWF v. NMFS. The materials include a brief and supporting declarations in response to Judge Redden's request for proposals for a remand of the 2004 FCRPS Biological Opinion. In addition, the four Regional Federal Executives issued a statement about the filing. June 29, 2005: The federal agencies filed a brief seeking an emergency stay of the June 10, 2005, decision in National Wildlife Federation vs. National Marine Fisheries Service. Redden issued an opinion ruling in favor of a coalition of environmental groups who had challenged the National Marine Fisheries Service (NOAA Fisheries) 2004 Biological Opinion on operation of the Federal Columbia River Power System for salmon and steelhead. William McDonald, Regional Director, Bureau of Reclamation, signed a "Decision Document Concerning the Final Updated Proposed Action and NOAA Fisheries' November 30, 2004, Biological Opinion. January 10, 2005: BPA Administrator, Stephen J. Wright today signed a "Decision Document Following the November 2004 NOAA Fisheries Revised Biological Opinion on the Operation of the Federal Columbia River Power System and 19 U.S. Bureau of Reclamation Projects." January 3, 2005: Brigadier General William T. Grisoli today signed a "Record of Consultation and Statement of Decision" which documents the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers intent to implement actions in the Federal Action Agencies' Updated Proposed Action and analyzed in the NOAA Fisheries 2004 Biological Opinion for operation of the Federal Columbia River Power System.
