Willow Grove Acquisition permanently protects wetland habitat Print pdf version | The Willow Grove property, adjacent to the Columbia River just below Longview, WA, includes critical intertidal wetlands that are habitat to migrating and juvenile salmonids, including Chinook, chum, coho, steelhead and sea-run cutthroat trout. Much of the historical floodplain and off-channel areas in this part of the river have been altered by industrial development, so the wetlands here are particularly important for habitat.
In 2008, BPA worked with partners to purchase the property. Long-term management includes maintaining and restoring habitat as well as regular monitoring and changes to management actions as we learn more about what the fish need in this area. Future actions may include vegetation enhancement, control of invasive species, placement of large wood material, and enhancing fish access to the wetland complex from the mainstem Columbia River.
