New Partnership With State of Idaho

April 9, 2008 - The federal action agencies (Bonneville Power Administration, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the Bureau of Reclamation) today announced a proposed agreement with the State of Idaho to provide 10-year mutual commitments for fish restoration, particularly for endangered and threatened Snake River fish.

BPA is seeking public comment through April 23, 2008, on the proposal to enter into the agreement as negotiated, as well as on any associated environmental effects.

BPA believes the proposed agreement will enhance overall fish restoration efforts in the region, making mitigation for the hydro system significantly more effective through a common approach. The agreement builds on the hydro, habitat and hatchery actions in NOAA Fisheries' draft biological opinions for listed salmon and steelhead, providing greater clarity regarding biological benefits and secure funding for our State of Idaho partners.
